Rainwater should be absorbed into the ground where it falls, in the city, in agricultural land, and in natural landscapes. Water is a shared ecological resource that connects every scale of human settlement, from the smallest neighbourhood stream to the world ocean.

True stewardship of water can only emerge from the bottom up. A droplet becomes a trickle, a rivulet, a stream, a river, a sea, and ultimately part of the global ocean system. Every local action affects the larger watershed downstream.

Aquihood proposes defining walkable communities according to nested micro watersheds shaped by natural topography, ecological systems, and hydrological boundaries. By aligning human settlement patterns with watershed systems, communities can better understand, manage, and steward the resources that sustain them. This creates a spatial framework where ecological processes and human movement work together rather than against one another.

It explores how neighbourhoods, infrastructure, mobility, and ecological restoration can be organised through nested watershed boundaries across multiple scales, from the walkable rivulet to the regional river basin. The goal is to support forms of urban expansion that are ecologically regenerative, resource aware, and humane.​
